Changes For Community Learning In 2008

Personal Learning has been re-titled ‘Self-directed Community Learning’ to avoid confusion with future SACE components.

It has also undergone significant procedural modifications.  Students seeking credit at Stage 1 level will have the complete application, interview, assessment and resulting process managed entirely within their school.  The interview will be conducted with one school-based, trained Community Learning assessor only.

Resulting of Self-directed Community Learning has also changed with all Stage 1 credit being classified as Group 3 – meaning that units awarded will default to whatever Group is required by the student in their Stage 1 SACE pattern requirements.

The processes for Stage 2 level Self-directed Community Learning are unchanged for 2008, with student applications to be forwarded to SSABSA.  The interviews will be conducted by a school-based assessor paired with a SSABSA assessor.  SACE units awarded will continue to be defined as either Group 1 or 2.

A new addition to the list of Community Developed Programs recognised is the Young Achievement Australia Business Skills Program™.

Please see the 2008 Community Learning Guidelines [pdf] for further details.
